On July 4, 2024, FairBuilding Network hosted a highly successful webinar titled “The Foundation of Advocacies: An Introduction to Non-Profit Organizations and Their Roles in Society.” The event brought together a diverse audience of passionate individuals eager to learn about the vital work of non-profit organizations and explore how they can contribute to meaningful social change.
The webinar kicked off with a warm welcome from Ayn Rand Parel, FairBuilding Network Administrative Manager who emphasized the importance of non-profit organizations in addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our society today.
We were honored to have three distinguished non-profit organizations share their stories, strategies, and successes. Each speaker provided a unique perspective on their organization’s mission and the innovative approaches they use to make a tangible impact.
1. CartWheel Foundation: Exists to empower Indigenous Peoples’ communities by harnessing self-sustaining capacities through culturally relevant education. Rainey discussed their efforts to bridge the educational gap in these communities. The presentation highlighted success stories and showcased how access to quality education can transform lives.
2. ACTED PH: ACTED possesses a strong expertise in the response to natural disasters, i.e. distribution of emergency kits including water, food, shelter and hygiene, and with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of shelter and wash infrastructures, including in IDP camps. They also engage in the support to social cohesion and sustainable peace, and intervenes with capacity building of local organizations, promotion of inter-religious and inter-community dialogue, training of media practitioners, and organization of Quick Impact Projects to prevent conflict and mainstream tolerance and non-discrimination.
3. Kids Who Farm: Equips the Filipino youth with knowledge and skills in food production and makes green jobs available to them. It hopes to inspire the youth by making farming enjoyable and easy to learn. KWF came up with two key programs as a response to food insecurity, aging farmers, and insufficient resources in the country. The first one is Hyperlocal Food Network, which aims to establish youth-led community gardens and school micro-farms in Mindanao using urban agriculture methods while also making sure they are sustainably managed. It also focuses on raising the next-generation of farmers through capacity-building interventions and community involvement.
One of the highlights of the webinar was the interactive Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Questions ranged from specific strategies for volunteer engagement to broader inquiries about the future of non-profit work. The speakers’ thoughtful responses provided deeper insights and practical advice for attendees.
